The Life and Times of a Tipperary Hurling Supporter

"The Life and Times of a Tipperary Hurling Supporter 1974-1986"

My book on Tipperary Hurling sets a completely different tone and mood. The story begins in 1974 as a 10 year old boy stands between the two front seats of a Volkswagen Beetle, listening attentively to the hurling chat going on between his father DJ and Fr Tom McCarthy, as they drove from Tipp. Town to Limerick City.

Tipp. were playing Clare that day, and the 10 year old boy was me! The story ends with the Munster Hurling Final replay in Killarney in 1987, when Tipp, inspired by two Michael Doyle goals, beat their great hurling rivals Cork in an epic Munster final that went to extra time. The Summer of 1987 was therefore a perfect hurling Summer in the Homes of Tipperary, where Cork were bet and the hay was saved.

Throughout the journey of this book I held a continuous conversation weighing up the merits of Christy Ring as a hurler. I concluded my conversation by stating that in my humble opinion, that Christy Ring was, is and always will be the greatest hurler that ever played the game.

Climate Change....We Think We Own It!

In my book on Climate Change, "We Think We Own It...", I write about the perceived weakness of human nature, born during the mythological "fall" of Eden.

A weakness that encourages delusional thinking, where some of us think that we own the planet earth, and see it as something that can be used by us in a careless way for monetary gain. I argue that his greedy action by some fuels Global Warming.

I conclude my book with a feeling of hope... I gain this hopeful feeling by encouraging humanity to undergo a change of heart, "metanoia", where in a spirit of kindness, love and truth, humanity can change their ways, and create a sustainable planet, which mirrors the unspoilt beauty and greenness of the original mythological Garden of Eden.
